suriname languageThe official languages in Suriname is dutch and English. Both languages are taught in the schools and appear in official documents. Additional the is a language we developed on our own which we love to talk, The Sranang Tongo, The  language derives its origins from dutch, English an African years ago. It belongs to Surinamese language family which includes the languages of from all cultures and origins .  During its evolution, many Spanish and American words have been assimilated into it. Sranang tongo is the most used and popular language being spoken in Suriname. So when you arrive we would like to help you understand us before you arrive. Other languages among large ethnic groups are the Hindi, Javanese, Chinese, Native Indian and African. We are a blend of many races cultures and ethnic groups so knowing 1 language just isn't enough.

Fawaka means "How are you?"   Usually replied with "bung" which means "i am doing good".
Angrie e kier mi means "I'm hungry" .
Mo gwe  means "I'm outta here".
Mo go sribi means "I'm going to bed".
Mi lobi yu means "I love you".
