Tonka eiland is an island in the van Blommenstein meer(lake) in Suriname. This Island is a among a few Tourism destinations Suriname which is located in a lake. Getting to Tonka eiland will take you over a bumpy but exciting road trip of about 3 hours to reach the Afobakka Stuwdam. From which you will board a boat for 2 hours trip straight trough the flooded regions of the Suriname river. The road trip will carry you trough the beautiful and mighty amazon rain forest. The boat trip trough the flooded areas are just as exciting as the road trip itself. You will see tree tops all over the lake , evidence of a rain forest which disappeared after a hydrological  dam has been built in 19th century. There is a abundant of fish in this lake and sports fishers are very fond of fishing in this region of Suriname. Popular fish are the Tukunari (Bass) , Koebi (Silver croaker), Kwanna and the notorious Pireng(Piranha). Tonka eiland itself is just an island with wonderful views of the lake and surrounding areas , Tonka Eiland has limited accommodation but luxurious enough for the wilderness.
